Auburn 2D Textile Design Competition

For this project, I had to come up with a unique and eye-catching textile/surface design that well portrays the spirit of Auburn University and the essence of your campus life during this exciting academic year.

For this project, I wanted to incorporate some of my interest in vintage Auburn memorabilia. So in the brainstorming phase of the project, I gathered a lot of images of things that I’ve acquired since starting school. I tried to find things that I thought would render well.

When creating the textile motif for this project I chose to reference a graphic from a 1950s Auburn sweatshirt that I found at a flea market in south Alabama. When rendering the design I chose to keep it simplify so it would look good when printed on the handkerchief.

When developing colorways for this design I wanted to take inspiration from some of Auburn’s baseball uniforms from the 1970s and 1980s. For one of the colorways, I wanted to try a subdued green color because I thought it complemented the orange well.
