For the skirt I wanted to stay true to the history of the fabric so I referenced OG-107 pants to try and bring a military influence to a micro-mini skirt.

For the first look that I made at Auburn, I wanted to try and make one of my favorite designs from my CADS class. This look was inspired by a trend that I saw based on zero waste production. For this look, I used a heavy-weight twill that I bought at a military surplus store. This fabric was originally used in the 60s to make m-65 jackets. For the top, I used a muslin base and did a patchwork from scraps I found around the classroom, that my peers couldn’t find a use for.

For the top, I wanted to make a statement piece so I tried to use as many scraps and patterns as possible. I had fun doing this although putting all the patches on was very time-consuming.

I was really happy with the way the final thing turned out. The main flaw I had with it was the fit, I was unable to do fittings with my model and the proportions on the dress form didn’t translate perfectly. But overall I’m really satisfied with the look and would love to bring the idea of zero-waste production into more of my designs.
